SPN 807 FMI 1 indicates the differential brake valve (ASR) solenoid circuit reports voltage below the normal operational range. This fault often appears after a control module replacement when technicians forget to recalibrate the valve, or following a wiring repair where a crimp connector introduces excessive resistance, dragging the signal below the ECM’s valid threshold.

- Traction control inactive: ASR system disengages; wheels spin freely under load without brake intervention.
- Amber warning lamp steady: Differential brake warning lamp illuminates continuously after key cycle.
- Reduced engine torque: ECM requests torque reduction to prevent driveline damage from uncontrolled wheel slip.
- Harsh differential lock: Manual diff lock engagement feels abrupt or fails to engage due to valve position uncertainty.
Probable Causes
- Open solenoid circuit: Broken wire inside harness between J1939 node and ASR valve connector.
- High resistance splice: Corroded or poorly crimped repair splice adds more than 5 ohms to the circuit.
- Faulty ECM driver: Internal ECM output transistor failed shorted or open, dropping voltage below 4.5 V.
- Valve coil damage: Internal short between windings reduces coil resistance below 2 ohms, pulling signal low.

Long-term prevention requires inspecting the harness routing near the frame crossmembers, where chafing is common.
